Definitely want to explain my "votes".

I came here originally because of your great post about "disorder" (so I selected that as the reason I came) but definitely interested in other subjects as well. I would say post about anyrthing where you have something interesting to say versus being focused on a topic. And cross posting is definitely fine if it's interesting.

And while I definitely would be interested in you doing more to build community, I would like to see you do so mainly by engaging in the comments here on Substack versus creating a Discord server or doing live chats or running a book.club. I have absolutely zero interest in the idea of Discord server; AMAs/live chats/and book clubs are potentially more interesting but I would probably prefer that energy go to more posts.

Enjoyed your recent response to the Abudance discourse. Would like see more engagement with other folks, especially with people who you respect but have a different perspective.

A specific suggestion of someone to debate or otherwise engage with: Radley Balko. Would be interesting to hear your contrasting takes.

I enjoy the crime/disorder stuff just like apparently everybody else does. But the other two categories are much harder to find elsewhere. I especially liked the history of the drug war series you did. Histories of various facets of crime / disorder might be interesting. And based on the polling, they might have something that everybody likes.

We need CUNY-themed Discord with a Stalinist and Trotskyist channel to complete the 70s neocon lore. On a serious note, all of these ideas sound great.

It might be worth adding a maybe to the yes/no questions. Personally, I’m a solid maybe on the book club.

I’m a center-left Democrat who’s not been a fan of the war on drugs, but I REALLY liked your series on the lesser known aspects of the drug issue. It’s great to get high quality right-of-center perspectives that don’t succumb to unempirical MAGA nonsense or dumb conspiracy theories.

Thank you.

Let me be the first to say I don't want to hear about politics/history (okay maybe some history on particular issues) but instead focus on the other two areas, where I think you have a more interesting niche.

Substack counted my vote wrong: reading via the Substack app I was just scrolling up to read the question and it registered that tap as a vote for the first option (crime/disorder), and it won’t let me change it. I was more careful scrolling after that.

I find your politics and history posts most interesting.

I would love to read a post from you about rehabilitation. Assuming that the best thing to do with an incorrigible criminal is lock him (occasionally her) up, what's the best way to help the median corrigible criminal stop committing crimes and live an honest life.

On your first question, I clicked all of the above, but I'm particularly interested in drugs/prohibition. I live in a marginalised community in Dublin with high levels of drug consumption. I see the serious problems caused by drugs, but I also see serious caused by prohibition – for example, because the criminal sanctions for drug dealing can be severe, the criminal gangs recruit underage, vulnerable young people into their ranks to carry out much of the work.

These are difficult problems to tackle, and while I don't always agree with your conclusions, I do appreciate that you spend time thinking about these issues, and putting forward serious, thought-through responses.

I like your essays, but I don't like social media. If I subscribed to everything I browse I'd have to get another job- and then I wouldn't have time to browse...
