For another Glazek type argument in the wild, see Phil Cohen's post in which he argues that we should accept immigrants that have criminal backgrounds *for the other nations safety*, https://familyinequality.wordpress.com/2024/09/29/you-know-whats-really-migrant-crime-trump-and-ice-and-people-who-know-better-should-explain-this-stuff/.

I realized only after I hit publish that this is also basically John Pfaff's argument ā€” it's morally necessary to lower the incarceration rate, so we must release serious, violent offenders in order to do so.

IIRC I don't know if Pfaff would say "morally necessary", he definitely argued the necessary part but I don't remember anything as cost/benefit style as Glazek.

George Gascon's loss is a good sign that American inner cities might return to sanity and normalcy. Were there any progressive DAs up for re-election who managed to win? Larry Krasner, Alvin Bragg, Kimberly Foxx, and all the rest of the Soros-funded prosecutors have been such a silent menace to this country for years.

Getting the costs and benefits of policing/social control of disorder is an ongoing process. COVID seems to have encouraged/empowered people to engage in more anti-social and outright criminal behavior --murder to low muffler noise.

That City Journal article on the relative generosity of the American welfare system blew me mind. Thanks for sharing that.
